Improved Performance in Theia IDE
Earlier, Matthew Khouzam and I wrote and article about the hard work that went into a Eclipse Theia IDE delivers a noticeable boost in performance over the “Theia Blueprints” releases 3 months ago. This is a look into recent work to instrument, measure, and ultimately improve the performance of Eclipse Theia IDE.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration with IDEs
Jonas, Maximilian, and Philip of EclipseSource penned a compelling article on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with IDEs, as we see in offerings like Github Copilot, Codeium, Tabine, ChatGPT. They opine AI will have the same transformative potential for graphical languages and modeling tools.
Contributor Award to Marc Dumai
We announced Marc Dumais as the recipient of the Contributor Award for the first quarter of 2024. This is in recognition of Marc's outstanding contributions that have significantly simplified third-party license checks across ECDT projects, contributing to enhanced project integrity and compliance.
Eclipse Theia Community Call in March

Cloud DevTools at EclipseCon 2024
The Eclipse Foundation announced the launch of Open Community Experience (OCX), a transformative open source developer conference set to take place 22-24 October 2024 in Mainz, Germany. Look for Cloud DevTools and Open VSX as part of the OCX EclipseCon main event. Sponsor packages include multiple event passes, are available. The Call for Proposals is now open, with an early bird deadline of 31 May 2024.
Langium 3.0
The Langium team announced the release of Langium 3.0. Overall, this release is more focused on improving the way Langium is used in projects, in support of larger frameworks, and as a parsing tool in conjunction with an IDE. Enhancements include, among other things, async parsing support, reduced bundle size, and enhanced error reporting.
Theia 1.47 and 1.48
The Theia team announced the releases of Theia 1.47 and 1.48. Enhancements include secondary window support for text editors, file link navigation in the terminal view, an updated Monaco dependency, editor tab decorations, installing plugins/extensions from the command line and .vsix files from explorer view, and more!
