Eclipse Cloud DevTools Contributor Award: Embedded SIG

Monday, August 15, 2022 - 12:21 by John Kellerman

The Eclipse Cloud DevTools contributor award this month goes to Rob Moran at Arm for initiating and hosting the Cloud DevTools Special Interest Group for embedded development.

The embedded SIG is an open collaboration of embedded vendors and service providers, with the goal of strengthening the open source ecosystem for building web- and cloud-based tools used for embedded development. It is hosted at the Eclipse Foundation as part of the Eclipse Cloud Developer Tools Working Group. Current members of the group include Arm, EclipseSource, Ericsson, Renesas, STMicroelectronics, and AMD. Take a look at this article about the embedded SIG for more details.

Rob Moran has been the chair and one of the main drivers of this fruitful collaboration since its inception. Under his governance, the embedded SIG has worked on a number of successful initiatives, including the creation of CDT.cloud. CDT.cloud is an umbrella project hosting open source components for building custom web-based C/C++ tools. With CDT.cloud Blueprint, the project provides a ready-to-be-used template tool (see screenshot below).

The success of collaborations such as the embedded SIG always depends on the participation of people from various organizations, and we have that. However, you also need people with a vision and dedication, and we have that too, with Rob. We are grateful to have him in the embedded SIG and thank him for all his work. Congratulations!

This Eclipse Cloud DevTools contributor award is sponsored by EclipseSource, providing consulting and implementation services for web-based tools, Eclipse GLSPEclipse Theia, and VS Code.
