On October 23, OpenHarmony and Eclipse Oniro hosted the “Think Global, Code Local” BoF event during OCX, bringing together global experts to discuss how collaboration in open source is transforming the IoT and smart device industries. The event focused on tackling fragmentation, advancing compliance, and fostering innovation through unified efforts, involving experts from OpenHarmony and Oniro.
A key theme was addressing the fragmentation of device ecosystems. OpenHarmony presented its “super terminal” concept, integrating multiple physical devices into one logical terminal to create seamless user experiences. Oniro complemented this vision with its focus on cross-platform tools and frameworks, such as the Oniro Developer Phone, tailored for the European market. These advancements highlight how joint efforts are overcoming technical and regional barriers.
Another focus was license compliance, a critical challenge for global open-source projects. Tools like OpenHarmony’s OSS Audit Tool (OAT) and its integration with the Eclipse Oniro Compliance Toolchain demonstrate how automation and standardization can simplify license tracking and ensure adherence to diverse open-source licenses. These solutions are setting benchmarks for compliance across the industry.
The forum underscored the power of collaboration, not just in solving technical challenges but also in fostering sustainable ecosystems. By combining innovation, compliance tools, and community-driven initiatives, OpenHarmony and Oniro are paving the way for a unified, global open-source future.
