You can help us make GAIA-X more open

Thursday, May 27, 2021 - 09:20 by Gael Blondelle

Today, we received two important news items from the GAIA-X AISBL:

  • The Eclipse Foundation AISBL is now officially a member of the GAIA-X AISBL

  • My colleague Michael Plagge is listed as a candidate for a seat on the Board of Directors that will be elected on June 7th. Due to some administrative and timing impediments, Michael’s candidacy appears under the name of Cloud & Heat. Thanks to them! We are really grateful for their support.

We, at the Eclipse Foundation, have been fully supportive of GAIA-X since the beginning, and even more since we finalized our move to Europe. We think that true openness and transparency in the way GAIA-X will produce specifications and software is a key factor of success of the initiative and a requirement to reinforce European leadership in the domain.

With our 17+ years of institutional history of running an open source software foundation, openness and transparency are part of our DNA. In recent years, we have built capacity around creating and governing open specifications. We have mastered how to create and sustain a level playing field, whose governance enables not only large organisations but also SMEs, academics, and researchers to collaborate and succeed together.

That’s exactly the role that Michael will play if he is elected at the GAIA-X BoD: support open specifications and open source, and make sure that the GAIA-X ecosystem is the right place for organisations of all sizes.

How can you help? Please help us spread the word to existing GAIA-X members. If your company is a member, please tell your company representative that they should vote for Michael Plagge to make GAIA-X more open and transparent.
