At any technology conference attendees expect to learn from the industry experts, EclipseCon and Agile ALM Connect certainly deliver the experts. However, learning from the experiences of others is equally important. That is why this year the EclipseCon and Agile ALM Connect program has a big focus on learning from your peers. There are some amazing organizations doing amazing things with Eclipse and you see a snapshot from these EclipseCon sessions:
- Guidewire is building software for insurance companies. Learn how they are moving to OSGi.
- Eurpoean Synchrotron Radiation Facility is building what seems like pretty cool scientific software using GMF.
- Google is using Xtext to build custom editors for their protocol buffers.
- O2 Filmes uses Eclipse RCP to build a script writer tool for Brazilian films.
- CSC is building pretty incredible software using OSGi and Eclipse for running Swiss trains.
- Sandvik is building is using Xtext to build CAD systems.
- Bosch is in the process of building an ALM tool chain for the automotive industry.
- BMW Car IT is creating a DSL using Xtext to make it possible to specify the behavior of an applications.
- Findout Technologies have ported their project planning tool based on EMF, GEF and Eclipse RCP to Eclipse 4.
- Open Grid Systems is building a data management system for the power industry based on Eclipse and OSGi.
And for Agile ALM Connect we have talks from companies that have very impressive track records for delivering software. There is a lot to be learnt from their experiences:
- Atlassian will talk about how they have gone from 98 day product cycles to 1 day continuous deployment cycles.
- IBM has had huge influence in the Eclipse-way of releasing software. They will discuss their experiences from the last 10 years of Eclipse and jazz development.
- GitHub has been very successful and has a unique approach to software development that they claim ‘It’s a great way to keep your developers happy, and we think it can work in your company, too.’ This is your chance to find out for yourself.
- Finally, I don’t think we talk enough about how the Eclipse Foundation actually keeps to wheels running of our very large community. We have a pretty impressive story, so it is great to have Denis and Wayne talk about how things work at Eclipse.
The program committee has really selected an amazing line-up of sessions from different industries. Certainly a lot to learn from your peers.
