Next year’s Eclipse simultaneous release name has been chosen by the community. In 2018, the simultaneous release name will be Eclipse Photon!

*Not the official release splash screen design*

Personally, I think it’s an awesome name #EclipsePhoton. I can’t wait to see the design we come up with for the official release! I’m sure Kat Hirsch has a few ideas up her sleeve already ;)

A bit of simultaneous release history

The Eclipse Foundation organizes an annual release train every June. In 2016, Eclipse Neon was released. It marked the eleventh year the Eclipse community has shipped a coordinated release of multiple Eclipse projects. It included 84 projects and contributed to by 779 developers, including 331 Eclipse committers.

This year, the release will be called Eclipse Oxygen. The official release date for Eclipse Oxygen.0 is scheduled for June 28, 2017. The splash screen hasn’t been finalized yet, but here are two potential designs being discussed on Bugzilla:

The current simultaneous release is Eclipse Neon. Download the latest version, Eclipse Neon.2.
