As Oniro wrapped up 2023 with significant milestones like signing the agreement with the OpenAtom Foundation to strengthen the cooperation between Oniro and OpenHarmony, and showcasing Oniro at Eclipsecon with demos and an engaging Birds of a Feather event, 2024 kicked off with a surge of promising opportunities. Thanks to the relentless dedication of the Working Group members and our collaborators, the first half of 2024 has been remarkably positive.
Key Areas of Oniro’s Evolution
Community Growth Oniro has welcomed new members in 2024, with Typefox and Bosch joining our Working Group. Typefox continues to enhance Oniro IDE, while Bosch explores the vast IoT opportunities that Oniro offers. Beyond official memberships, we’re collaborating with Volla, a European smartphone manufacturer, and Hoperun, a product solutions and service provider based in China. This expansion makes our community larger, more diverse, and ripe with opportunities for the future.
Technical growth The community's growth and our partnership with OpenAtom Foundation have opened new doors for Oniro. We've been developing Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and new use cases demonstrating the possibilities Oniro offers. Our architecture allows technical contributors to extend their work beyond Oniro, reaching OpenHarmony communities as well. For instance, integrating Eclipse IoT Kanto into Oniro using Hoperun's hardware, which supports OpenHarmony, creates a global IoT solution for Eastern or Western markets. Another exciting venture is, developed in cooperation with Volla, the Oniro Phone, an experimental platform for developers to interact with and explore Oniro mobile’s ecosystem.
Oniro Visibility One of our major goals for early 2024 was to solidify our message and make it accessible to the developer community. Our real breakthrough came from active participation in various events, where Oniro representatives delivered talks, showcased our technology, and engaged with other industry stakeholders. Our presence at numerous open-source and industry-focused events has maximised the impact of our ongoing and developing projects. Complementing our event presence, we’ve also ramped up our social media strategy to promote Oniro through digital channels.
Looking Ahead: What's Next for Oniro?
With a positive start to the year, we are dedicated to continuing our growth in three key areas: community, technical advancements, and visibility. We aim to build on our hard work and create new opportunities for both current and new members. Engaging with the developers' community remains our top priority.
Join us at the Open Source Summit Europe in September by visiting our Oniro booth. Additionally, mark your calendars for the Open Community eXperience in October.
