As we announced back in September, the Eclipse Foundation is again collaborating with OpenLogic by Perforce to field the 2025 State of Open Source Survey, aimed at software professionals working with open source across all industries. The results will be used to build a report that explores worldwide OSS adoption trends.
The open source ecosystem is ever-evolving, and understanding its trajectory is critical for organisations, developers, and contributors alike. This survey is a unique opportunity to:
- Explore Trends: Uncover emerging technologies and tools shaping the open source landscape.
- Spot Growth Areas: Identify sectors and industries where open source is thriving.
- Tackle Challenges: Highlight obstacles organisations face and propose ways to overcome them.
Community surveys like this are an important part of our efforts to champion open source development and innovation. The State of Open Source Report consistently provides invaluable insights that we use to better support our community of open source contributors and organisations that rely on OSS for their business-critical applications. The 2025 edition of the report is scheduled for release early in the new year.
This year’s survey features questions on big data, software security and compliance. There are also sections examining growth and usage in technology categories like operating systems, web infrastructure, databases, DevOps, and more.
The end of the survey focuses on open source maturity and stewardship, including sponsoring or being involved with open source foundations and organisations like the Eclipse Foundation.
Whether you’re an open source enthusiast, a corporate stakeholder, or a casual user, your perspective is invaluable. As we all know, reports like this one are only meaningful when they present a representative cross-section of the surveyed population. To that end, Eclipse Foundation members are encouraged to take the survey to ensure that the 2025 State of Open Source Report is an accurate reflection of the top priorities and challenges facing OSS developers and contributors.
We invite you to take some time to participate before the survey closes on 15 December. The survey takes less than 12 minutes to complete.
