Welcoming YanLink: Accelerating Oniro with Next-Gen Connectivity and Industrial Edge AI

The Eclipse Oniro project is starting its next chapter of growth with the official addition of YanLink to the ecosystem. Headquartered in Paris, France, YanLink is a full-stack Industrial IoT (IIoT) solution provider. Their arrival brings a powerful combination of field-proven open source expertise, cutting-edge short-range wireless technology, and edge AI capabilities to the project.

YanLink’s core leadership is highly aligned with our technical foundations. The company is led by Dr. Yang LIU, a core initiator of OpenHarmony and the Executive Director of the International SparkLink Alliance. Dr. Liu and his team bring deep experience in operating system architecture and industrial commercialisation, making them an ideal partner to expand Oniro's reach in the global market.

A Shared Vision: OS × Connectivity × AI

YanLink’s engineering philosophy mirrors the roadmap we are building at Oniro. By combining a distributed open source operating system with advanced communication protocols and localised intelligence, this collaboration aims to solve real engineering challenges across industrial manufacturing, energy, smart buildings, and consumer electronics.

To achieve this, the collaboration will focus on four primary strategic milestones:

  • Integrating NearLink (SparkLink) Connectivity: The team aims to drive the integration of Oniro with NearLink, a next-generation short-range wireless technology designed for ultra-low latency, high reliability, and precise synchronisation. This will unlock new capabilities for time-sensitive industrial and consumer applications.
  • Deploying AI-Powered Industrial Solutions: YanLink plans to deliver dedicated edge AI hardware, including an intelligent "AI Box" tailored for video surveillance analytics on factory floors and smart environments.
  • Expanding the Hardware Ecosystem: Through targeted chip adaptation and development board support, YanLink will help ensure that developers and hardware manufacturers have a broader, more mature selection of silicon options when building with Oniro.
  • Developing Consumer OS Solutions: Beyond industrial environments, the partnership will explore consumer form factors, focusing on the development of smart feature phones and tablets powered by Oniro.

In Their Own Words

As the ecosystem scales, establishing a transparent, vendor-neutral platform remains vital for companies looking to avoid vendor lock-in while deploying robust commercial products.

Dr. Yang LIU summarised the decision to align with the project:

"Joining the Oniro Working Group is a natural extension of how we've built our products and how we think about the future of industrial IoT. Oniro provides a transparent, vendor-neutral open source platform that perfectly aligns with our vision of 'OS × Connectivity × AI.' We look forward to bringing our field-proven experience in OpenHarmony, NearLink, and edge AI to the Oniro community, and working together to build a robust, secure, and scalable IIoT ecosystem for the global market."

Looking Ahead

With a shared commitment to building open, dependable, and highly connected device ecosystems, the integration of YanLink's technology marks a significant step forward. By aligning engineering resources around open standards, Next-Gen wireless tech, and practical AI workflows, we are making it easier for industries worldwide to adopt, scale, and build on a genuinely open foundation.

Stay tuned for technical updates as our joint development work gets underway.
