Adoptium Summit 2024: Migrating Towards Securely Developed Open Source Solutions - Why register?

Monday, August 5, 2024 - 09:57 by Carmen Delgado

Five weeks from now, we are hosting our first-ever Adoptium Summit!

This half-day free event is virtual so that you can join from anywhere in the world.

If you belong to the Adoptium community, are an Eclipse Temurin user, or are planning to migrate from a different JDK to an open source solution, this is a good opportunity for you and your team members to join and learn from our community members.

Adoptium Summit, 4 hours, 8 speakers, 6 sessions

Yet another virtual event, why register?

Adoptium stands for both the Working Group, which is the governance entity, and the Top-level being the most used and known project for their Java runtime, Eclipse Temurin

With more than 460 million downloads to date, Temurin users are located all over the world, and creating a virtual event is an opportunity to showcase the community's work and amplify the word from some of our users and community members.

With this first edition, called “Migrating Towards Securely Developed Open Source Solutions”, we want to highlight the experience of our users by migrating from other Java versions to Temurin, our open source, free or charge solution and all the work done by the community to guarantee quality, security, reliability and performance.

Who is behind this event?

Adoptium Summit is a community-led event, and the program committee represents the community's value by having the Project committee and working group members as part of this organisation https://www.eclipse.org/events/2024/adoptium-summit/program-committee/ This event is supported by Eclipse Foundation, which brings together the experience of its staff in organising other virtual events.

Why these topics?

One of our enterprise users said, “We don’t think about it, it just works.” That is why we wanted to create this event; we have chosen to highlight the topics around building Temurin, all the work done by community members, and the users' experience in getting more than 50 builds combining versions and platforms available on time and as the preferred solution of some well-known automated actions. With sessions like:

  • Navigating the Java Seas: Jenkins' Journey with Temurin by Bruno Verachten from Cloudbees.
  • Java-riety is the Spice of Life by Haroon Khel from Red Hat.

With special attention to the secure development work done to guarantee a Secure Supply Chain:

  • Building the World's Most Secure OpenJDK Distribution by Michael Winser and Shelley Lambert from Eclipse Foundation and Red Hat.
  • What's Lurking in Your JDK? Identifying Vulnerabilities in Temurin by Daniel Scanteianu from Bloomberg.

We will also discuss other projects developed by the community, like AQAvit, the test suite, with the session “Inspiring AI-Infused Innovations in Adoptium AQAvit and Openj9” by Lan Xia and Longyu Zhang from IBM, and Eclipse Migration Toolkit for Java with “Modernize Java for Cloud: Lessons Learned from Using EMT4J to Upgrade Applications for Alibaba Scale” by San Hong Li from Alibaba.

There is a final surprise. We are working with the community to wrap up the event; as soon as we have more news, we will share it on our social media.

As the Adoptium Community Manager, I hope I have given you enough reasons to attend our first virtual event, and all the shared information brings value to the Java community; looking forward to seeing you all during the event next September 10th starting at 13:00 CEST, register here
