Review Documentation Format Changes

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 11:50 by Wayne Beaton

The Eclipse Management Organization (EMO) does a lot of reviews. We do a review when a new project is created. We do a review when a project wants to do a release. We do a move, continuation, termination reviews and more. For each of these reviews some form of documentation is required. The documentation (often referred to as “docuware”) describes the event being reviewed and provides pertinent data so that interested parties can learn what they need to know.

I love it when I see questions like this…

Thursday, June 18, 2009 - 15:21 by Wayne Beaton

A couple days ago, I came across this entry in the DLTK mailing list:

We are using the Python component, but we are a small startup company and don’t have the resources to work on it ourselves. We would be interested in code completion for the Python component and debugging with Jython.

Finishing up the Galileo Release Reviews

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 13:57 by Wayne Beaton

I have been making my way through the results of the Great Galileo Release Review of 2009. It’s a slow-going, fairly mechanical process that eats your brain. The process has given me (if this is possible) even more respect for Anne who usually takes care of this sort of thing.

Upcoming Release Review: eRCP 1.3

Thursday, June 11, 2009 - 15:38 by Wayne Beaton

The intent of this project is to extend the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) to embedded devices. eRCP is largely a set of components which are subsets of RCP components. It basically enables the same application model used on desktop machines to be used on devices.

New features in this release include:

Galileo Release Reviews

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - 13:37 by Wayne Beaton

Today we held the big review call for projects included in the Galileo release. One of the interesting things that came out in the call is that the number of project reviews appears at odds with the number of projects listed in the Projects section on the Galileo Simultaneous Release wiki page. It all depends on how you count things.

Developing Community

Friday, June 5, 2009 - 11:31 by Wayne Beaton

My JavaOne encounter has caused me to think a lot lately about developing community around open source projects. Here’s a good rule of thumb if you want to develop a community around you’re open source project: don’t call your potential future users “stupid”. Yes, I am making a mountain out of the proverbial molehill.

Automated IP Log Tool

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - 22:44 by Wayne Beaton

There’s a fundamental problem with the Automated IP Log Tool. Now, don’t get me wrong… there’s a lot of good stuff in there. And we’re going to keep on leveragin’ that good stuff as we move forward. But there’s a fundamental problem.

Committer Community Brainstorming

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - 13:31 by Wayne Beaton

I’ve been blogging recently about some project/committer issues that I’d like to address. I’ve created a wiki page that I intend to use as a home for incubating ideas about things that my crack staff and I can focus attention on to make things better for everybody. My plan is to use this page to brainstorm the ideas to the point where they can either be acted on, or moved into Bugzilla as viable, actionable, discuss-able tasks.
