Council Meetings at EclipseCon 2016

Monday, January 18, 2016 - 17:29 by Wayne Beaton

We’re going to host the Architecture and Planning Council meetings during the conference (on Thursday) at EclipseCon 2016. This will be a great opportunity for the councils to connect and plot how to make the Eclipse community even better.

The 2015 Revision of the Eclipse Development Process

Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - 15:33 by Wayne Beaton

The Eclipse Foundation Board of Directors approved a new revision to the Eclipse Development Process in its meeting on November 2/2015. It took effect—replacing all previous versions—on December 2/2015. This is a minor revision that primarily updates the document to reflect the evolving reality of how our open source projects operate. We made, for example, some changes to the section on reviews to reduce wordiness and reflect the lighter weight process that we’ve adopted over the past few years.

Introducing the EclipseCon Europe 2015 Hackathon

Thursday, August 20, 2015 - 15:52 by Wayne Beaton

Alternate title: I Went to EclipseCon Europe and What I Saw There Blew My Mind…

EclipseCon has great tutorials and sessions. The speakers are second-to-none, and the networking opportunities are fantastic. if you’re looking for it, you’ll find software developers doing amazing things together. For EclipseCon Europe 2015, we’re going to formalize this a bit. At very least, we’re going to give it a nice home and a lot of love.

New Eclipse Project Handbook

Monday, August 10, 2015 - 11:55 by Wayne Beaton

For a very long time, I’ve wanted to completely rewrite our documentation for projects and committers. I finally gave it a big push last quarter and have completed a first big revision. There’s still more work to do, but I believe that the new document is very close to being the more-or-less complete “how to run an Eclipse project” document that we’ve needed for a while.

PMI Facelift

Friday, January 17, 2014 - 08:13 by Wayne Beaton

The Project Management Infrastructure (PMI) is still, frankly, a little too ugly for my liking. A proper facelift with the help of a graphics designer and somebody who knows a thing or two about designing websites is still required (and planned). Having said that, we’re taking a small step forward.

Mylyn, EGit, and Your Commit Message

Tuesday, November 5, 2013 - 13:30 by Wayne Beaton

If you’re using the task-focused UI from Mylyn, then you get a lot of help when it comes to assembling a message for your commit (if you’re not using the task-focused UI from Mylyn, then you need to re-examine your wasted life). Mylyn automatically populates the commit message in the EGit commit dialog.

The Eclipse Development Process 2014

Thursday, October 17, 2013 - 17:13 by Wayne Beaton

At the beginning of October 2013, I delivered a draft of the next revision of the Eclipse Development Process to the Eclipse Architecture Council for their review and approval. The “delivery” was actually pretty uneventful as the council has been actively involved in the construction of this draft for several months. I intend to present this to the Eclipse board of directors during their December meeting; with their approval, the new revision will go into effect early in 2014.
