Roundup of the Embedded System Conference

Thursday, April 6, 2006 - 15:40 by Ian Skerrett

We just finished up exhibiting at ESC. This was my first ESC, so I really didn’t know what to expect? By all accounts, I think we was a success and we will be back next year.

Embedded Eclipse

Tuesday, April 4, 2006 - 23:45 by Mike Milinkovich

I get to join Ian at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) this week. I spent several hours today walking the exhibit floor looking for Eclipse-based tools and products. They’re everywhere! I am really miffed with myself for forgetting to bring my camera.

Just a partial list of companies showing Eclipse-based tools are: QNX, WindRiver, Aonix, AMD, DDC-I, ENEA, IBM, KlocWork, LynuxWorks, Mentor Graphics, MontaVista and TimeSys.

More excitement at Linux World

Tuesday, April 4, 2006 - 18:05 by Wayne Beaton

There was a little more excitement around the Unisys booth today. As I attempted to talk by, I was redirected by security personnel. It seems that somebody had collapsed and EMS was working with them. I guess Linux World is just a little too exciting for some. This time, I did have my camera ready, but decided that it was probably a better idea to not take a picture.

I did take a few pictures of the exhibit hall though. You descend into the exhibit hall from the entrance which makes it really easy to take in the full breadth of it all. There’s a lot going on.

Big Excitement at Linux World Boston!

Tuesday, April 4, 2006 - 11:02 by Wayne Beaton

My morning started with me stuck in Boston traffic. It got more exciting.

Just minutes after I arrived in the exhibit hall, I nearly got knocked over by a Unisys exhibitor. He was running to see why his booth was on fire. The plumes of smoke where spectacular. Unfortunately, by the time I managed to get my camera, the smoke was gone. Maybe next time…

Callisto wallpaper

Monday, April 3, 2006 - 21:36 by Wayne Beaton

Inspired by my first attempts at making Eclipse wallpaper, I’ve now created a Callisto one. It’s available in the following sizes: 1400×1050, 1280×1024, and 1024×768.

Eclipse at Embedded Systems Conference

Monday, April 3, 2006 - 17:17 by Ian Skerrett

I am back in San Jose this week for the Embedded Systems Conference. What a lot of people might not realize is that Eclipse is really big in the embedded and device software space. Most of the major industry players, including Wind River, QNX, Lynxworks, ATI, Monta Vista, Timesys, ENEA, TI, Intel, etc. have all adopted the Eclipse Platform, CDT and/or DSDP as their developer solutions platform. The Eclipse Foundation has a booth at ESC and we will be demoing CDT, DSDP and TPTP in the booth.

Wallpaper

Monday, April 3, 2006 - 16:08 by Wayne Beaton

I’m on my way to Boston to participate in Linux World. I’ve never been to Linux World, so I’m not quite sure what to expect. I’m hoping that at least a few folks show up for my session, titled “Building Applications for Multiple Platforms Using the Eclipse Rich Client Platform“. It’s a pretty lengthy title; probably my longest title to date. I’m so proud.

Linux University for Developers

Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 21:27 by Wayne Beaton

It seems that the good folks over at Novell have been working hard on Eclipse content. The Linux University for Developers page contains a bunch of Eclipse tutorials/demos that take you through the process of getting started with Eclipse on OpenSUSE Linux. I went through the first tutorial, titled “Getting Started with the Eclipse IDE“. If you’re new to Eclipse, it’s a pretty good place to start.

My first screen cam

Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 14:50 by Wayne Beaton

I’ve created my first screen cam demonstration of Eclipse. It’s all so very exciting for me. Can you feel the excitement?

This demo shows how you can use Eclipse together with JUnit to do top down development of Java code using a test first philosophy. Along the way, I make heavy use of code assist (ctrl-space) and quick fix (ctrl-1).
